CDL school removed or under review: what it means for students
By Jake R · Updated October 23, 2026 · Registry-status only; based on 49 CFR 380.721 and 380.723.
As of October 23, 2026, FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry lists 492 training locations with a proposed-removal (“under review”) notice and 9,957 as removed. This page explains what those statuses mean for your training record. It reports registry status only and makes no allegation about any provider.
“Under review” = notice of proposed removal
When FMCSA starts the process of removing a training provider from the registry, it issues a notice of proposed removal and notes that on the registry (49 CFR 380.723(b)). In plain English, the location is still listed, but FMCSA has started a removal process.
- The provider generally has 30 days to respond to the notice.
- If it agrees to fix problems, it generally has 60 days to finish corrective action (49 CFR 380.723).
- A provider under notice must tell its current and scheduled students about the proposed removal.
- A notice is not a final finding of wrongdoing. The location may still train while the process runs — but if FMCSA later removes it, training done after the removal date does not count.

“Removed” = training after the removal date is invalid
FMCSA may remove a provider that no longer meets the requirements (49 CFR 380.721). Reasons can include failing or refusing an audit, falsely claiming state licensing, or student CDL test pass-rate issues. Providers can also ask to be removed voluntarily (for example, they stopped training).
Training conducted after the removal date is invalid for ELDT purposes (49 CFR 380.721). In cases of fraud that trainees knowingly took part in, FMCSA can also invalidate training retroactively. A voluntary removal by itself does not prove wrongdoing; an involuntary removal is initiated by FMCSA.

What you should do before you pay or keep training
- Check the exact location (not just the company name) with our FMCSA school checker, then confirm on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
- If the location is under review, ask the school in writing what the notice is about, what corrective action (if any) is underway, and what happens to your tuition if the location is removed before you finish.
- If the location is removed, do not rely on training dated after the removal date for your ELDT record. Ask your state licensing agency how to complete valid training elsewhere.
- Keep copies of your enrollment agreement, payment receipts, and any written notices the school gave you.
