GI Bill-approved locations checked against FMCSA's registry (50)

A GI Bill approval and an FMCSA registry listing are two separate things. For CDL training to count toward your license, the training location has to be on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry. These are registry locations where we could tie a GI Bill-approved, non-college-degree truck-driving program to that exact location. We accepted a match automatically only when the state, city or ZIP, and name all agreed and nothing conflicted with the street address. We reviewed other possible matches by hand. Status is as of October 23, 2026.

A school missing from this table may still be approved. Some VA listings name a campus that we couldn't match to a single registry address. To check any Texas school's FMCSA status, use our school status checker.

GI Bill on-the-job truck-driver training in Texas (32)

These Texas employers have a VA-approved on-the-job training (OJT) or apprenticeship program for truck drivers. VA says the GI Bill can pay a monthly amount while you train on the job (plus books and supplies under the Post-9/11 GI Bill), and that OJT isn't available to active-duty service members or to spouses of active-duty members using transferred benefits (VA: on-the-job training and apprenticeships). Ask the employer what license or training they expect before you start.

Texas military CDL waivers: forms CDL-3A and CDL-3B

Federal rules (49 CFR 383.77) let states substitute military driving experience for CDL tests. Texas DPS has two application forms:

• CDL-3A, Application for Military Skills Test Waiver. This is for service members who are currently licensed and who are, or were within the last 12 months, in a military job that required driving a military vehicle equivalent to a commercial motor vehicle. It waives the skills test only. The form says CDL knowledge tests can't be waived, and School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements can't be transferred under this waiver (Texas DPS form CDL-3A).
• CDL-3B, Application for Military Knowledge and Skills Test Waiver. This is for service members with one of these MOS/ratings: 88M, 92F, 14T (Army), 2T1, 2F0, 3E2 (Air Force), 3531 (Marine Corps) or EO (Navy). It applies to an initial CDL only, not upgrades or restriction changes. You must be on active service or within 12 months of discharge. An accepted application is exchanged for a CDL with the appropriate endorsements, without knowledge or skills testing. The normal CDL fee applies, you must meet all other CDL requirements, and the School Bus (S) endorsement isn't covered (Texas DPS form CDL-3B).

Both forms ask you to certify your driving record for the past 2 years (for example, no more than one license at a time except a military license, and no suspensions or disqualifying convictions). They also ask you to certify that you drove a representative military vehicle for at least the 2 years before discharge. Your commanding officer certifies your driving experience, vehicle class and brake type. If you qualify for the military waiver under 49 CFR 383.77, the federal ELDT rule also exempts you from entry-level driver training (49 CFR 380.603(a)(3)). If you're past the 12-month window, plan on ELDT with a registered provider. A GI Bill-approved school can cover that.
