FAQ

Is this a statewide or national average?

No. The range is the minimum and maximum class_a value among the named programs shown for that state. We do not invent averages.

Why only Class A?

v1 of this tool surfaces Class A only so every number stays tied to a sourced Class A row. Class B and more states will appear when we have the same quality of citations.

Does tuition always mean what I will pay?

Not always. DOT physicals, drug screens, commercial learner’s permit (CLP), DMV skills-test fees and retests are often extra. Read each program’s note and get a written itemized quote.

Where do the Florida numbers come from?

School tuition pages plus CareerSource Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL) estimated costs and South Florida ITA itemized costs — the same records linked on our Florida CDL school cost page.

What should I do before I pay a school?

Confirm the exact training location is Active on FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry with our school status checker, then confirm on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
