Student checklist · independent · not FMCSA

Before you pay a CDL school

A calm, printable checklist. Confirm each step yourself — no lead forms. Registry status and tuition answer different questions.

  1. 1. Check the federal registry

Search the school on our FMCSA checker (or the official Training Provider Registry). Confirm the exact training location is Active — and read any Proposed Removal / Removed notice before you sign.

School / location checked: ______________________________   Date: __________   Status: □ Active □ Under review □ Removed

  2. 2. Get a written, itemized quote

Posted tuition is not a quote. Ask what is included (permit, test fees, truck for the road test, retests). Compare named samples in the cost estimator and sourced pages for Florida, Texas, New Jersey, and California.

Written quote received? □ Yes   Total: $__________   Includes: ______________________________

  3. 3. Separate funding from sticker price

GI Bill® and WIOA can change what you pay. See how to pay and CDL for veterans. Registry status and tuition stay separate — honest cost methodology.

    Funding path: □ Self-pay □ GI Bill □ WIOA / workforce □ Other: __________   Confirmed with: __________

Remember

  • FMCSA does not publish tuition. A price is not approval.
  • We never invent statewide or national averages — only dated figures from named programs we cite.
  • Wrong on our site? Corrections path. Wrong on the registry? Fix it with FMCSA.
